Best for: One-touch espresso, drip-style coffee and iced drinks from fresh beans
Our take
The Magnifica Duo is a bean-to-cup machine: it grinds whole beans with a built-in conical burr grinder, brews and froths milk at the touch of a button, with no tamping or steam wand technique to learn. What sets this model apart is range. It uses three brewing methods to make espresso, drip-style coffee and cold brew, and De'Longhi says its cold extraction produces cold brew in under three minutes instead of the usual overnight steep. The menu holds 20 preset recipes across hot and iced drinks, chosen from a touch display. The automatic frother makes both hot and cold foam and works with dairy milk or plant-based alternatives, so iced lattes and cold foam drinks are as easy as a cappuccino. It also has an auto-clean function, automatic shut-off, a removable water tank and a water filter. This is a big purchase and a big appliance, close to 20 inches deep and 16 inches tall, so measure under your cabinets. Like every automatic machine it needs regular care: emptying the grounds and drip tray, rinsing the milk system after use and descaling when prompted. It is also a new model with few reviews so far, so its long-term reliability is not yet proven by owners.
