Double-Sided HEPA Air Purifier with PM2.5 Sensor

Best for: Bedrooms and living rooms with pets, dust or seasonal allergies
Our take
This purifier pulls air in from both the front and the back through two filter sets, each with a washable pre-filter that catches hair and lint before it reaches the HEPA layer. That is useful in a home with pets, because you can rinse the pre-filters instead of clogging the main filter early. A sensor measures fine particles and shows the PM2.5 reading on the top panel, with a light that changes color with air quality; in auto mode the fan speeds up when the air gets worse and slows when it clears. There are five fan speeds, a sleep mode the brand rates at under 20 dB, a timer for 4, 8 or 12 hours, a display-off button, a control lock and a small tray for a few drops of essential oil. The unit is compact at about 16 inches tall and 6.7 pounds, and draws 36 watts. Treat the headline coverage of up to 3,000 square feet with caution: figures like that describe roughly one air change per hour, and a purifier this size will do its best work in a single bedroom or living room. The HEPA filters need replacing every 4 to 8 months, so check replacement availability, as the brand is not well known.
