Seasonal mats are one of the easiest ways to make a kitchen feel like autumn without storing boxes of decorations. This set has two pieces in a burnt orange with a woven, burlap-style look: a 17 x 29 inch mat that reads "hello pumpkin" and a 17 x 47 inch runner scattered with white pumpkins and "hello fall". Each is a thin layer of polyester felt on a recycled rubber backing, only a quarter of an inch thick. That low profile is the practical advantage: doors swing over them, they do not curl into a trip hazard, and the rubber grips the floor. Cleaning is simple, since the brand says to hose them off or wipe with a sponge and mild detergent. Be clear about what they are not. At a quarter inch they give almost no cushioning, so if you want relief for your feet while standing at the sink, buy an anti-fatigue mat instead. The printed felt surface also shows grease and wear over time, which matters less for a rug that is out for two or three months a year.
