Collapsible Microwave Cover with Silicone Mat

Best for: Keeping the microwave clean without paper towels or plastic wrap
Our take
A splatter cover is one of the cheapest ways to stop cleaning the inside of a microwave, and this one solves the usual storage problem by collapsing. The 10.5-inch lid fits over most plates and bowls and adjusts in height from 0.75 inches when folded to 3.4 inches fully open, so it clears a full plate and then stores flat in a drawer or inside the microwave. Vent holes in the top let steam out so food reheats without going soggy, and a recessed grip in the center gives you somewhere to lift it. The cover is polypropylene plastic; the round mat that comes with it is food-grade silicone, rated by the brand to 572°F and safe for the microwave, oven and dishwasher. The mat works under the plate to catch drips, and doubles as a trivet or jar opener. The perforated lid can also be used to rinse and drain fruit. Two cautions: the lid itself is plastic and is for the microwave only, not the oven, and steam collects underneath, so lift it away from you. Check your tallest bowls, since 3.4 inches will not cover everything.
